What is the best way for me to begin collecting art?
Don’t be intimidated by the art world – attend art fairs, visit museums and go to art galleries on a regular basis to become acquainted with artists and their works. Look online, as many websites and web-based galleries (including The Artling!) provide the opportunity to easily browse through different genres and mediums of art. As you gain exposure to the art world, you will sharpen your eye to your personal preferences.
But before you go out and buy artworks on a whim, do your research. Sit down and think about what kinds of art you want to collect (i.e. prints, art from a certain region or artist, etc.). That said, keep an open mind, as your tastes and preferences can change – trust your instinct and only buy works that you love. Decide on a budget, and work within those constraints.
